Alice Lane Christmas Social

A few nights ago I was invited to attend a blogger social at Alice Lane. I was flattered to attend this event with so many talented local bloggers, crafters, and photographers.

It was such a lovely night, and I always love an excuse to eat junk, and meet people I otherwise only know through the www. There was a handmade gift exchange, and so much mingling, I could hardly sleep the night. Wired.

Aside from all of the blogger stuff, Alice Lane is the most beautiful shop in Utah Valley.

Id jump at any opportunity to sit in there for hours.

Christmas Tree Hunt

This is a big right of passage we go through each Holiday season. Both Dane and I are Christmas tree-enthusiasts, and without the right tree, the holiday is just not the same. Last Year we hiked the mountains and found the most perfect tree, cut it down, and towed it home. We had never been so happy with our tree of choice! Our goal this year was to find one even better, which was an impossible feat. We picked the coldest and windiest night of the year to tree hunt, so our decision had to be a quick one. Although we found a perfect tree-lot, nothing beats having an entire mountain to choose from. But somehow, in the rush and bitter cold, we found one we loved even more than last year.

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl

Bright and early Thanksgiving morning, Dane and a bunch of our friends played in a Turkey Bowl. Only a few of us wifeys were daring enough to brave the cold. But freezing or not, we had fun eating doughnuts, watching our men get rowdy, and most of all, hanging out on our old high school stomping grounds. Im such a fan of this Timpview place.

Holiday Bijou Market. Provo. Day 2

You all know about my love for Provo. There is just something in the air, and the feeling this entire day was of excitement. We were able to meet so many new people and help so many of you, and others, get started on holiday shopping. The music that was playing added so much hype to the day as well.

We also held a Salt Lake Market on Saturday. I think the three of us let out a huge sigh of relief that we were finished Bijou-ing for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday. But what a perfect kick off it was! As for now, au revoir Bijou Market, and let the holiday festivities continue!

Holiday Bijou Market. Provo. Day 1

Bijou Market has become a holiday to us. Not one of those relaxing kinds of Holidays. But the kind that has lots of work leading up to it, makes you lose sleep the night before, and then is full of an excitement, all its own. There are traditions and stresses that come, only with this certain holiday. There are friends and family you typically only see on this certain day (including lots of you, thanks for coming!)
Its a wonderful kind of Holiday.

Day 1 was was bustling!

So many shoppers, so many goods to purchase. So.Much.Work.

Like usual, a success.

All three of us, myself, Emily and Rashelle, have our turn being pregnant over Bijou Market.

This time, it was my turn. At 26 weeks it could have been worse, but did make it a little rough.

Sick and Busy

I think we've been sick for about 3 weeks now, if im counting right.

But who can really afford to be sick this time of year? Not i.

Way to much to do.

So a sick day? We havent really taken one. Im sure thats why our sickness lingers.

With Bijou Market 2 days away and the holidays rapidly approaching, we've ignored these

runny noses and sore throats, and knocked things off the long list of must do's. one by one.

Last night, Bijou Market Tote-making happened.

Its always a long but exciting night of crafting for us, just a few days before the big day arrives.

We love the way they turned out, I hope you all come shop, pick up a tote, say hi and/or meet us. We would love to see you!

Long Distance Relationships Are Rough

A few days ago, Dash received this.

We watched it once, twice, three times and each time it ended Dash said "again for Ivy mom".

I couldn't say no to his ear to ear smile and his blushing cheeks each time Ivy was told to "blow him a kiss" and instead, went in for the smooch. We watched it 15 times and then realized, this long distance stuff has got to end. Someones got to give up their home town.

Geoff and Stacie, whats Gilbert got that Provo doesn't? And don't pull the Flancers card.

Hot Chocolate

Nearly everyday this week we have warmed up with some hot chocolate.

When 4:00 hits, and we are waiting by the window for Dane to come home,

it seems to be the perfect way to pass those anxious minutes.

Also, i'm such a fan of the way Dash automatically raises his pinky finger while sipping.

Fall Bucket List Success

At the first signs of fall, we made a to-do list as long as the Great Wall of China.

We never check absolutely everything off our to-do lists, but we try.

This fall was different.

We have come to the end, and successfully accomplished the entire thing.

This weather wont let me decide if fall is still in session, or if winter is here.

As far as our winter list, well its already accumulating to-do's faster than I can even write them down. When we woke up to snow Sunday morning, we thought it was time to begin our winter list, but yesterday the fall leaves were still calling for Dash to come play. My point: Arent seasons awesome? I love living in a place with 4 completely different seasons, all with their own activities. Cant wait for the winter list to begin!

A Houseguest

We always love having house guests. It doesnt happen often.

Typically people that come visit UT are visiting family, and have a million places to stay.

But once in a blue moon we'll be lucky enough to have house guests of our own.

Kelsey came to town and stayed a few days, with us, and we LOVED it.

Not only did we get to spend every waking minute with her, but hardly missed a moment a part with these two as well. We ate till we were sick of food, had lunch dates with other friends, and tried our best to include our husbands. I dont know if they saw any of us for two full days.

Needless to say, we loved having Kels in town.

Halloween Marathon Wrap-Up

The Halloween Festivities this year have been never ending, and seemingly better than ever. Anyone else agree?

I know that so much of the fun has come from having a little one old enough to enjoy it.

Dash has fallen in love with pumpkins, dressing up, pumpkin flavored baked goods and candy (well, he already knew he loved candy)

But along with his excitement about the holiday, it seems the rest of us were equally as happy to let the celebrating go on and on and on.

Halloween has officially come and gone, and at our house its time to start listening to Christmas music, and planning out that Thanksgiving dinner.

But before we completely let Halloween draw to a close, here are a LOT of photos taken during the Halloween celebrations.

Nauvoo, IL

We spent the loveliest, coldest, weekend in Nauvoo with my parents this last weekend.

With recomendations from a few expert friends, we stayed at all the right places and ate at all the best joints.

Food is most definitely slim pickins around there, but with a good sense of humor, you can enjoy most anything, right? Mulholland (the main street) had about 5 restaurants total. All ma & pa joints, of course. We tried each of them and didnt find anything worth bragging about, except the fudge shop. Delicious.

We stayed at the Zions Mercantile Hotel which was quaint and adorable. With a view of the Nauvoo temple, and the darling little shop in the lobby, we couldnt have been in a more perfect spot. Highly recommended.

We took carriage rides through the country, and covered wagon rides around town to see all of the beautiful historic sights and homes of the prophets of our church.

The colors of the trees were changing with the very cold fall weather, and the Mississippi river was breathtaking.

On our way to Nauvoo we stopped in the town Hannibal, and visited Mark Twains boyhood home.

We loved spending time with two of our most favorites, my sweet parents.

Seeing these historic sights where so many incredible events took place was almost surreal.

Orchard Hayride

A few weeks ago we invited all of our friends and their kiddos to an Orchard Hayride party.

My friend, and photograher, Jylare photographed the event and just sent me this preview of our little family.

I cant wait to see the rest, the party was such a perfect way to welcome fall!

Now, we are off the Nauvoo for the week. I've never visited Nauvoo and am ecstatic!

Pumpkin Patching

When Dane and I got married 3 and 1/2 years ago, we started a fall tradition to visit the pumpkin patch in the neighborhood he grew up to pick out our pumpkins each year. We were so excited to have a family and to include the little ones in the tradition. In all of our excitement, Dash's first year at the patch wasn't quite what we expected. He didn't know or care what a pumpkin was. This year, on the other hand, Dash was in Pumpkin Heaven. He ran around knocking on all of the pumpkins to find the perfect one. He even picked out a little one for his baby brother on the way. I can see a bright future for these traditions of ours.

Washington DC

I spent the weekend in Washington DC.

It was my first time visiting there which meant my to do list was obviously GINORMOUS!

With only 48 hours to spend, I had to fill every last second with sights and food.

Little time to rest.

First on the list was 2Amys.

I haven't stopped hearing about this place in months.

My friend Sarah and I took a long walk through some incredible DC neighborhood to find the restaraunt.

The walk was perfection, and the food, just as good as all the talk made it up to be.

I ordered the Margharti Pizza and Suppli al Telfono. Highly recommended!

After supper, on our way back to our hotel we stopped at the National Catherdral, and Union Square where we met my family Ashley, Carl and Remy. They has just flown in from Paulo Alto to spend the weekend with us in DC.

The next morning we spent a few hours at Eastern Market.

Bluebuck Pancakes for breakfast at the Market Lunch.

Shopping through the market and the darling little shops, and then a meet up with my blog friend Naomi.

Now, not just a blogger friend. A real life one.

The rest of the day was crunched with sight seeing. As many of the monuments as we could fit in, which wasn't nearly all of them, and lunch at none other than Good Stuff Eatery (recommended by Naomi, along with all of the other meals we ate). She and I have twin taste-buds. EVERYTHING she recommended was irresistible. Thanks girl!

Saturday night we attended a fabulous wedding at the National Museum Building.

The wedding was the whole reason we went to DC, a close family friend of my inlaws was married.

How lucky to be attending a wedding in such an incredible City.

Of course, the wedding was FAB. Pictures of that event to be posted shortly.

And, here, my 20 week bump.

As you know, 48 hours is NOTHING in such an incredible place. Needless to say, i'll be back again soon to finish off the other zillion to do's.

Fall Conference Weekend is my first favorite weekend of the entire year, with a close second favorite being Spring Conference. To us, its a holiday, packed with its very own traditions. Its so relaxing, the weather is always top notch, and like all the greatest days, its filled with peaceful time with family and of course, great food.

Out Of Towners

This weekend was filled with friends visiting from out of town. The Langs came from AZ and spent a good day with us in Provo. Dash and baby girl Ivy were finally able to kindle their love (Iv's pinned Dash up against the wall and stole his iPhone). Despite the love that may have been non-existent between the two of them, us girls loved finally being together with Stacie again after so long. (She is one of our few friends that dare live anywhere else but Provo). I take that back, there are only 3 of us left here. We are way out numbered at this point.

Also, my dear Kara Jo flew in from Florida for a good long stay. We were able to spend so much quality time with her. Mostly while eating delicious food, and staying up wayyyyy to late. We also shot some maternity pics of her adorable pregnant self. Its always heartwarming spending time with the highschool best-friends, especially when you have to wait months in between seeing them. Come again soon Kara girl. We love you.

Super Dash

I got lucky when I married Dane, not only did I inherit some perfect in laws, but a whole new extended family, many of who were already some of my closest friends. This little fact makes our family get-togethers some of my favorite times.

We went up the canyon for a BBQ and s'more roast with a some family on Tuesday night. It was really cold, we could feel fall in the air! I think it is officially here.

Rarely do we remember to snap a picture together, even though I spend so much of my time with these two pretties. My mum and sis are my two closest friends. I love them to the moon. A few days back was my sister Camy's birthday, we celebrated over lunch minus all the boys. She has an incredible twin brother, whose birthday it was too, obviously. But for the afternoon it was just us. And it was wonderful.

Dash has never been more wonderful, sweet, cooperative, agreeable, cuddly and loving, in all of this life. These are all pretty "dash-y" traits, but more so than ever these last few months!

And it is making me believe my assumption of the terrible 2's is totally accurate.

Moms?

Am I just jumping the gun? Are you going to tell me to "just wait" until 2 really does hit? Im finding it hard to believe that "terrible" is anywhere in his near future.

Two Of The Best Kind

Last night we had a fairwell party for our dear sister and brother in law Ashley and Carl.

They are moving to Paulo Alto where Carl will be getting his PhD at Stanford. Besides us being super proud of his accomplishments and having a great new vacation destination, we are so sad to have two of the best of the best moving away.

There is no one like Ashley and Carl.

We love being in their presence more than just about anyone else on the planet.

They are the real kind of wonderful.

Last night was one of those nights full of the greatest people. One of those nights that leaves your insides warm.

We swam, played volleyball, snacked, and basked in the joy of being with so many of our dearest family and friends.

Good Bye Kelsey, and Other Recent-ness

Our dearest friend Kelsey has decided to take a leap of faith, and move away from Provo. GASP!

We are all devastated and cant stop having goodbye lunches and dinners in her honor.

This one, was officially the last. She has really, really left us.

We dined with our best buddies, well, those who are still living near-bye, and sat at a table adjacent to Miss Michelle Money herself.

We stared, waved, and Dash blew her kisses. She loved us, or maybe she just loved Dash. Here is proof.

Other than Kelsey dinners, Dane and I have been eating a lot of hot dogs and tin foil dinners. BBQ's have made up many of our summer meal menus. We had a small gathering up Hobble Creek with some family and friends. I think it was the last hot dog I can handle. At least until next summer. I've over done it.

Also, this weekend on Provo Center Street was the Latin American Festival. We walked over, enjoyed a mariachi band and loved a whole lot of the Latin culture. We also took some pictures that werent on our iPhones. Super proud.

Kitchen Sink = Bathtub

Sometimes on a busy day

when the kitchen needs a good cleaning, and Dash needs a bath,

and there isnt time to do both, the kitchen sink becomes a bathtub.

On another note, we're finally feeling better.

Not as under the weather as we were last week.

So many exciting things have been happening! Lots and lots of friends having babies. Like, literally 7 of my closest friends and family have delivered a baby in the last few weeks.

We are so happy to have all these tiny babies around.

Also,

lots of swimming, snowies, and cramming last minute summer fun in before summer ends.

Im secretly totally fine with summer ending, there is nothing like fall!

This passed weekend, we packed up and drove south with our friends the Oldhams.

We stayed in St George in the Oldhams beautiful condo, swam our brains off and shot down to Las Vegas for a quick shopping spree, dinner, and heat wave, and then drove back to the lovely St George Condo.

The weekend was relaxing. So much so that I came away with ZERO, yes, zero, pictures.

HOW? This has never happened in Nicole history. But the lack of pictures tells me one thing, it really was a peaceful, no stress weekend. And we loved every minute of it.

Chicago wins. This City is incredible from the food, to the shopping to the spik and span streets.

I spent three days with two of my oldest friends. Emily, a friend from clear back in elementary school. She married a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox and got swept away from us here in Provo. I finally was able to go stay with her downtown in her incredible high rise apartment. The view was breathtaking from her 44th floor windows, and the breakfast joint downstairs, Yolk, stole my heart.

Of course we spent every minute with Stacey who also lives in Chicago. We actually had amazingly cool weather, in the 70's, which is unreal for this time of year in Chicago, and it made for perfect city weather.

We ate at the most UH-MAZING place. The Purple Pig. Beet lovers--they have the BEST beet salad ive EVER tasted. I'd fly back just to eat at The Purple Pig, and to have all of that amazing shopping at my fingertips. What a dream.

We also went to a White Sox game, of course, since Em's husband was pitching. He's a lefty.

It was pretty incredible.

To wrap it up, I adored Chicago.

2 Days in St Louis

I have always wanted to visit this city, due to one of my all time favorite movies,

The city was even greater, older and more beautiful than I expected.

The Black and White Cookie

Saturday morning I had a super early photo shoot in Salt Lake, so we decided to skip town and stay there Friday night, to make Saturday morning easier on us. Im glad we did.

We discovered the best new summer drink at Blue Lemon, a Fresh Mint Frozen Lemonade. I cant stop thinking about it. Try it! Blue Lemon also makes these Black and White Cookies which, according to Dane, are the best thing on the planet.

(ever since a Seinfeld episode he saw years back).

We love spending time downtown Salt Lake City.

Family Home Midway Evening

On Monday we explored the charming little town Midway for our Family Home Evening.

It was so green, and rained off and on. Mosquitos were out of control. I must have at least 100 bites, on each of my legs. Other than that, we love the Midway Town.

Are any of your homes constantly under-going projects, like ours?

Over the last couple of months, we have done more to our house, than most people do in a life time, really.

And our to-do list is still no where near complete.

Although, we've checked quite a few things off, as of late.

This weekend, we did basically nothing but projects.

Dane, spent most of his time building a halfpipe in the back yard.

Him and our friend Atom decided last fall that building a 6 ft halfpipe in our yard was a good idea. But shortly after construction started, they both became busy and the halfpipe never became more than a pile of wood.

Dane is determined to finish it this week.

With that being his main priority, and on top of that, all of the other projects we worked on together, we didnt have time for much else this weekend.

But, we did have time to take a breather and eat at j dawgs, twice.

Even amidst the work, there must be a little play.

Old School

One of Danes best friends from high school was visiting from out of town.

I loved watching them both with their little ones (who are only 2 months apart in age)

It is so great to see what wonderful dads they've both become.

I also love that Dash and Lo look so adorable together.

The Real 4th

After a long weekend of continued celebration, the 4th of July finally rolled around.

We started the morning early with a crepe breakfast at the neighbors house, then lounged on the lawn as the parade--paraded by.

Dash loved the sirens, and the marching bands.

My favorite, always the bag-pipes and the herd of missionaries.

My entire extended family was visiting from out of town, so the parade was followed by a major swim party at my parents house. I loved catching up with so many of them, especially these cousins who we hope to go visit in New Jersey soon!

After the swim party we headed downtown to enjoy the Freedom Festival festivities one last time.

We ate fried food, and more fried food, and then met Danes family at Guru's, for even more food.

Never ending food, that is one of the best things about the 4th of July. Right?

Freedom. Free it eat anything. We are proud to be part of the fat Americans.

We sent the holiday out in style with more fireworks until midnight that night.

We've said it before, and we'll say it one.last.time. we ♥ this holiday!!

4th Party, on the 2nd

Our friends, the Grows, hosted a perfect 4th of July party on Saturday night.

Complete with cotton candy, sliders, frozen strawberry lemonade, mexican corn on the cob, treats beyond your wildest imagination, and a perfect view of the Stadium of Fire firework show, from their perfect backyard that overlooks the valley.

Patriotic Sidewalks

We live in the most patriotic neighborhood in all of America.

These red and white stars are painted up and down the sidewalk, year round.

Every Fourth of July the neighborhood throws a gigantic block party (which took place last night).

Cops block off the streets.

They bring in jump houses, rock climbing walls, food galore, loud music you can hear for miles, train rides, gazillions of fireworks, movies projected on the side of houses, everything wonderful about this holiday happens right here, in our hood.

Its more of a party than the Freedom Festival itself, going on just another block away

(of course, we also totally love that, too)

This neighborhood was made for us!

After all, the Fourth of July is our most favorite holiday.

The block party lasted all night, so we took a quick break and walked over to the Roof Top Concert Series with some friends to hear Abbey Road.

During our walk, Kayti and I realized we are married to 15 year old boys,

stuck in grown-up bodies.

And we are totally fine with it.

At first we rain for cover.
And then we embraced it. It was amazing.

The weekend in a nutshell:

We took a walk around the Provo Temple grounds, and taught Dash how to say the word Temple (he's really good at it)

Had a BBQ and swam with the Norton family, who we love.

Walked to center street for dinner.

Attended the lovely baby blessing of Rune Ross.

And, lots more swimming.

Oh, and Hayes showed us how much he loves to eat rocks.

weekend is has got me all full of butterflies.

Fellow Provo Lovers, have you heard about the Provo Airport? As of yesterday, you will be able to take flights out of the Provo Ariport to anywhere in the US (with a quick transfer in Denver). This is a big deal, people! No more need to drive to Salt Lake to hitch a flight.

I couldnt be more excited, and Proud to be a Provo-ite.

We participated in all of the festivities Monday night. A BBQ at Utah lake, and, we were able to stand on the runway and watch the first Frontier Airlines flight land at our very own Provo airport. This is the next best thing to Dash's giggle, if you ask us.

I'm a baby hoarder, and maybe a tid bit baby hungry.

These two, Ashley and Carl, in that bottom right picture, were lucky enough to be invited to take the first flight out of Provo, to Denver, this morning with the Mayer, and cosmo, and other Provo socialites. SO proud to call them family, those lucky ducks.

Weekend

The weather men are wacky. Instead of the rain that was predicted, we had sunshine all weekend!

We didnt have to cancel our garage sale, which ended up being super successful.

We sold everything and made a grip of cash!

We also didnt have to cancel any of our other weekend plans, which we were thrilled about.

Ever sense we got married, we've talked about buying an american flag,

and having a house to hang it on.

This year, it happened!

It was exciting for us to do this, since it has been in our plans for over 3 years.

Let the patriotic festivities begin.

The 4th of July is Dane and my favorite holiday, we can hardly wait for the firworks, the parade, and all the awesome deep fried food and free music just 2 blocks from our house.

On Saturday, after the garage sale, we spent the afternoon at the lake

with our friends the Frames and the Ross'.

Good company + great weather = a perfect time.

A Wedding

Wednesday night we attended the wedding of one of my cousins.

Our two favorite things of the night?

This sorbet was insanely delicious. Watermelon.

Bridal Veil Falls

Last night we drove up Provo Canyon for a wedding dinner,

and on our way we wanted to show Dash Bridal Veil Falls.

I am always amazed while driving up the canyon,

at what a breathtaking place we live in.

The mountains are incredible, and so green! This awesome waterfall

less than 5 minutes from our house is so incredible.

Also, it feels nice to check things off our To Do in Summer 2011 list.

The list is looooong. But we have a full summer ahead!

Three years ago, in January, Dane and I met. It was a blind-ish date, set up by Lindsay. The story is short, simple, but oh so sweet.

After our first date, we came home to meet -these -three -roommates and I whispered to them (behind Danes back)

"I love this boy!"

From there, we fell very in love, and were engaged by May. We were married in June. Fast, yes. Our wedding was on Danes birthday, June 12. That date seemed like a good idea at the time, we both loved the idea of a June wedding, and no weekend seemed to work better than that one. But now, we spend each June 12th competing. Me, trying to celebrate his birthday perfectly, and focus fully on him. And him, trying to spoil me for our anniversary. This time, we compromised, left town, and kept it simple. Everything was a co-celebration of these two very special events.

We took a quick weekend trip to Salt Lake City,

stayed downtown and spent our time doing three of our very favorite things,

being together as a family, eating, and shopping.

Have you ever had the street taco's downtown near the gateway? We had them for lunch friday. Delicious, and only a buck!

I feel guilty for not celebrating Dane's birthday all on a day of its own, is it okay for me to make it last a few more days?

If you werent there, you should have been, and you will be next time. (fall-time maybe?)

Everyone was leaving with armloads of clothes, for practically pocket change.

Prices were basically anywhere from $1 - $15. A dream come true? Yeah!

Our tables didnt make it, so sellers made piles on the grass, and shoppers walked up and down the isles, digging, sometimes frantically, through piles of amazingness.

Here, a few snapshots (taken towards the end of night when piles were very picked over) that dont really even do it justice, so instead, people (myself included), will be doing outfit posts put together from goods we scored at theFLEA. Stay tuned!

Rooftop Concert

Friday night we walked over to the Rooftop Concert Series , near our home in Downtown Provo. We love living downtown, especially now that it is summer. On weekends we dont even need to get in our car, everything (well, lots of things) are in walking distance. I' ve always been a Provo lover, but when summer hits, my love for this town comes out in full force. Brace yourselves. The concert was delightful, we met a bunch of our family members there, ate a foot long corn dog from Station 22 that i'm still thinking about, 3 days later, and ran into all kinds of old friends. Another reason i'm glad P-Town in my town.

A few evenings ago, Dane packed us a simple little picnic, and took me up the canyon for a BBQ in the prettiest little meadow i've ever seen. I don't know how he found it, but its my new favorite spot! I want to take everyone I know there, as soon as im done enjoying how much I love having it be a secret. There was no one in miles! It was perfect!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a favorite holiday of ours. Always has been, since I was a little girl.

It is such a peaceful day, and even if its raining (which it was) we can still visit and remember our loved ones that are no longer with us, even if it means getting a little wet.

The family all met up at the beautiful East Lawn Cemetery and decorated the graves of my dad, grandparents and other friends that have passed, then feasted on a delicious breakfast.

Hope everyones holiday was lovely.

A Little Taste Of Lately

Our lives over here have been in a bit of a whirlwind.

Sort of for the better, and sort of for the worse. The good news? Sometimes the "worse" is only a blessing in disguise, and it surprises you how quickly you learn to be grateful for the trials that are thrown your way. In our case, i've been humbled beyond belief as i've watched these events unfold, change our lives, and somehow we've ended up on top.

We took a little blogging break to get back into the swing of things, but amidst the rocky road, there have been lovely bits of life happening all around us.

Kayti Oldham had a birthday, and Lindsay threw a surprise Gormet S'more party with a few of Kayti's buddies. We were lucky enough to land the invite list, and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We are extremely grateful for all of our wonderful, supportive friends these days.

Blake Baker, one of Dash's little friends turned 2, and we attended his bike birthday party.

All of the kids brought their bikes and rode in circles around the cul de sac. Brilliant idea by Lindy, check out her blog to see the whole adorable party.

A Family Vacation

We went on a family vacation, with all 20 members of our family.

With such a big group, cruising has become the best/easiest way to vacation,

and in result, a bi-yearly family cruise was established.

You know how much I adore my family, and any time I have with my family, is the best time!

Although, with an 18 month old, it was a different experience than our previous family cruises.

But, a cruise is a cruise, and my family is amazing, and with those two ingredients, we couldn't go wrong.

Last Saturday we flew to CA a few hours early, on purpose, to spend some time with or friends Morgan and Joel. They were married last fall, and we've been dying to visit their new life together ever since. We visited their darling loft in Santa Monica, walked a block to the 3rd Street Prominade, shopped, had a nutella banana crepe breakfast (a tradition Morgan and I and Stacey started years ago, in Paris) enjoyed the flawless weather, and then boarded our cruise ship.

We loved our few hours with you, Joel and Morgan. Cant wait to visit again soon.

Naturally, when I think of Mothers Day, my thoughts turn to my own mom.

She's been my example, my mentor, my fashion idol, my everything idol,

and my best friend my entire life.

She deserves all credit for anything good i've turned out to be.

She's pulled me through the rough patches and hard times.

She's been the rock of our family, and to her, I am eternally grateful.

When I married Dane, I was lucky enough to have another wonderful mother enter my life.

She is supportive, loving, welcoming and kind in every way. She has taken me into her family, as if I was one of her own daughters. I feel so blessed to have her as my mother in law.

For my younger sister, Camy, this will be her first mothers day as a mother.

She has always been admirable, and so many times in life has acted as a mother figure to me. She is nurturing and strong, and though she is just beginning her journey as a mother, she has already surpassed the mother I can only aspire to be.

As I look around me, I see that so many of the people I am with every day are mothers, too!

Many of my friends, my sisters in law, my cousins and my neighbors, all of which are beautiful examples of what a mother should be. I love to see the joy all these women have in motherhood. What a wonderful opportunity we have this weekend to celebrate the beauty of motherhood!

Egg Hunting, Round 1

Our friends Jenna and Kate hosted the loveliest Easter Egg Hunt for the kids Saturday morning.

The day was complete with a crepe brunch, cows, a professional story teller, and, bubble blower.

Our backyard has begun to turn into a lush forest with all of this rain Utah has been getting.

The details are incredible, I had to snap some pictures of it.

There is moss growing up every tree stump.

The ground is covered with green (we dont have grass) just hundreds of plants covering every inch of the yard.

When you look up, you can hardly see the sky, the trees are so thick.

I love our forest jungle yard, and I cant wait to throw parties back there when it is a little more tame, and when the rain calms down a bit. But for now, rain, rain! I think rainy weather is wonderful.

Daddy is the Coolest

Snowboarding.

Im sure there are important things like family, church, ect in the running as well.

But for today, we'll focus on the snowboarding thing.

The resorts are about to close for the season, so Dane wanted Dash and I to venture up to the resort with him for one final rendezvous.

The day was flawless. Not a cloud in the sky. Dash loved playing in the snow while Dane and I switched off taking runs.

I remembered Dash's sunscreen, but forgot his sunglasses which left him with poor little sunburnt eyeballs. (Like Lindsay Evans in Highshcool)

Dane helped Dash snowboard down a few tiny hills, but we mostly just stuck to making snowballs. Its so precious watching your little boy look at his daddy

like he is the coolest man that ever lived,

and watching Dane teach his son how to be awesome, just like him.

Bijou Day 1

With a sigh of relief, and a bit of sadness, we bid adieu to Bijou for 6 months.

Day 1 brought rain, Einsteins, floods of amazing shoppers and booming success.

Many of you ask "how do you put on such an event, and not spend a fortune on all of this incredible stuff?"

Our answer?

We leave broke, just like many of you.

Here is my damage.

Aaaaaand, 3 loafs of coconut bread, 1 loaf of banana bread, 3 chocolate dipped marshmallows, and who knows how many bags of chocolate covered pretzels, all of which didnt last long enough to be photographed.
I also made a custom order on a lamp, some yellow mocs for Dash, and an Adri Headband.

Broke? Ya, basically.

We closed the doors that night exhausted, but pumped for Saturday, day 2 (pictures to come).

Yesterday was a delicious 70 degrees.

After running around like crazy people all day, trying to accomplish a gazzilion things before the weekend, we decided we best be taking advantage of this weather, before it changes on us again.

Off to the park we went, with the Webbs, for a picnic.

We love our Webb friends.

Oh, and the father-son matching hat thing?

Dash had the hat first, and Dane wanted to be like him. So he bought one to be as cool as his kiddo.

We spent most of our time this week with friends, meeting their new boyfriends, babies, fiance's and like always being so grateful for all the wonderful people around us. I know, I say this a lot, but its true. We adore our family and friends. With all of hustle and bustle of visitors, visiting and dining, we only got 3 pictures to prove it. Here, Kelsey and I, and her cutie boyfriend (who we love) having dinner at Pizzaria 712. Dane (not pictured) was also there, of course.

1st Day of Nursery {kind of}

Dash, being 18 months old, is now invited into nursery at church.

We have been waiting for this for months. I cant remember the last time we had a relaxing day at church, which is what church is supposed to be.

I thought Dane and I were on the same page here, but turns out, I was wrong.

When we began heading towards the nursery room, Dane laid it on me.

"Dash is not starting nursery today, he doesn't want to."

Dane, being the most amazing father and being very aware and sensitive to Dash's wants and needs had made up his mind that today wasn't the day, and that Dash wouldn't be attending nursery... maybe ever.

Im not complaining, I am grateful for a husband who is caring and thoughtful. I love him for always thinking of Dash's needs before his own. But i'm beginning to worry. Preschool? K-12? A mission? Im sorry Dash..I dont think its in the cards for ya. We just cant let you grow up.

SO, as you may have guessed, Dash's first day of nursery, was more like just another day in class with mum and dad.

I love you, Dane. Im so glad you know what Dash is thinking all of the time.

The Big Leagues

On Saturday, Emily and Russ hosted a Baseball themed party for their

1 year old Rookie, Hayes.

Emily outdid herself on this one. We ate everything from hot dogs (inclusive with the jawgs sauce), to cracker jacks and big chew. A photobooth snapped a picture for your very own baseball card, and a real game of ball was played. Needless to say, the party was a blast, Dash had the best time of his life in his homemade jersey, and we discovered that he already has all the baseball moves down to a science. We love you Hayes, Happy Birthday!

Babies Galore

Over the last few weeks we have been so blessed to have many many new babies arriving to our family and friends. There is nothing like new cousins and friends for Dash. I know watching them all grow up together is going to be amazing. Wanna know what else is weird? They are ALL BOYS! (except one girl) Not complaining. Its going to be a crazy group of little rascals.

Meet a few of our new little angels.

Remy (far left) is Dash's only cousin on the Christensen side (well, 1st cousin that is, Dash has many 2nd cousin buddies that are some of his best friends, already). We couldn't believe how much Remy looks like Dash. Twinners! Ashley and Carl are such sweet, perfect new parents.

Roe (middle) is the son of our friends and neighbors the Oldhams. His hair is amazing, isn't it?!

And Rune (far right) is Lindsay and Robs 2nd little boy. He looks like his older brother Oliver, he was born 5 weeks early but is healthy and getting stronger everyday!

I know what you are thinking, Remy, Roe and Rune? How much cuter could their names be? And to think they'll be running around together for the rest of their lifes? Amazing.

18 Month Bump

To celebrate Dash's 18 monther, we hit the park.

Dash played with friends he had never met, that he should have met a long time ago, and I caught up with high school besties. The kiddos swam in the Atlantic, stomped around South East Asia, and then Dash tripped and got the biggest bump in all of his 18 months.

The older kids took good care of him with kisses and hugs, and I tried not to panic.

The first hard hit to the noggin is a scary moment for a mom.

We ♥ Husbands

This passed weekend I had a conversation with my cousin-friend Heather.

(she is my "cousin-friend" because she was first my friend, but then she became my cousin, but it feels weird to call her just my cousin, so cousin-friend it is)

Her husband was out of town on a business trip, and Dane was on wedding duty, so Heather and I were getting a small dose of what it is like to take care of crazy little two-ish year olds, all on our own.

I haven't had to take care of Dash, without Dane, ever.

He has been by my side, with the exception of those work/school hours during the day, since Dash was born.

But as Heather expressed her gratitude for her husband Matt, and her realization of how much he does for her and Cole every single day, we both became extremely aware that our husbands are even more wonderful than we already knew. Thank you, husbands. We love you so very much.

Saturday we spent the afternoon at the East Lawn cemetery, in the warm sun, gathered around my sweet daddys grave, sharing memories, laughing and crying, and loving the opportunity to celebrate his birthday.

This has become such a sweet tradition over the years he's been gone.

We read old letters to and from him, went through a box of his special things, and tried on a pair of his old clogs which I would LOVE to wear, if only they fit.

We cherish these memories and are so grateful to have them.

A Wedding

What really matters is that the day was beautiful.

Everything went perfectly.

The night ended with overwhelming gratitude for our loved ones, friends and family.

We are surrounded by such wonderful people, and so much love!

We are happy for the newly weds, Sage and Josh.

I hope that when I get around to uploading the images from the day, I can share more than just some junky, caught off guard shots, and maybe something of the bride and groom.

My boys looked so fly, I love them all scrubbed up.

Family Meet-Ups

Much of our family lives out of state, but those of us who are close by really take advantage of it.

At least once a week, and a lot of the time two or three times a week, we spend our evenings together at dinner.

Usually nothing fancy. Just quick meet-ups for a quick dinner and laugh.

Friday night we met at Five Guys.

A Sick Rut

We have been sick (all of us) for as long as I can remember.

Not really, but at least a week.

Although, things are looking up, we made it out of the house today

for a lunch date with friends.

And hosted a darling bridal shower last night (which i took zero pictures of because, remember, the camera is in the shop. still)

I have a feeling a normal, healthy life is just around the corner.

Until then..some of our favorites from days when we were more of a chipper bunch.

Although I don't shoot with it, Diana does, and she gave me a stack of beautiful prints from our session with her a few weeks ago.

We love that she took time to shoot a few rolls, they are beautiful!

Introductions

Dash has had a whiney morning.

The house is a mess, i'm beyond behind on my editing, and I could really use a shower.

But the poor little guy just wants some attention, and is bound and determined to allow me to accomplish nothing.

So, instead of trying to conquer my list, and letting him remain sad and teary, we got down on his level, in the mist of our messy kitchen, and introduced him to a Peanut Butter and Honey Sandwhich.

It was sticky and messy, we both had honey all over our faces and hands, and a bit of peanut butter in our hair, but one of those moments i'm oh so glad I paused for.

Taking A Sick Day

We woke up early today and headed out for a few essential errands, but as the day progressed, our health digressed, and despite the beautiful weather, we have decided to make it a sick day. Sorry presidents, no celebrating for you.

It's off to bed we go.
